LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders will wrap up the non-conference portion of their home schedule this week as the Wofford Terries come to town for a three-game series beginning on Thursday night. The two teams will play 7:00 games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday due to the fact that Texas Tech has begun final examinations.
Texas Tech (26-23; 7-16 Big 12) enters the week on a down note as the squad was swept over the weekend against Oklahoma in Norman. The series loss was the first-ever in school history to the Sooners and put OU in eighth place in the conference standings. The Red Raiders will be doing a lot of scoreboard watching this weekend as Tech must win the same amount of games OU does the remainder of the season if they hope to advance to the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City. The problem for the Red Raiders is that they have just three Big 12 games remaining while Oklahoma has six games left. The Sooners play at Kansas State this weekend and at Missouri in two weeks.
The Wofford Terriers, of the Southern Conference, come to Dan Law Field with a record of 8-35 on the year and have a 6-20 mark in league play. The series against Texas Tech will mark the first time in school history that the team has played a member of the Big 12 Conference. The trip to Lubbock will also be the farthest west the school of just 1,100 students (second smallest in Div. 1) has ever traveled.
Tickets for the three-game series are on sale through the Texas Tech Athletic Ticket Office at (806) 742-TECH.
