Texas Tech Media Relations Office Earns Publications Award

LUBBOCK, Texas - The 2002 Texas Tech volleyball media guide was awarded the 2003 Viggo O. Nelson award for division 3A as chosen by USA Volleyball. Other school's publications earning a Nelson include Wake Forest (1A), Tennessee Tech (2A) and Texas A&M (4A).
This is the second time a volleyball guide from the Tech media relations staff has been awarded the Nelson, joining the 1999 publication. The award is just another in the history of the Tech media relations office. most recently the 2001 baseball game program and the 2002 baseball media guide cover were chosen Best in the Nation by CoSIDA, with the 2002 baseball guide placing third in the nation.
Media guides were scored based on several criteria including creative theme, artistic interest, and how well the guide achieved its intended purpose. Divisions were based on enrollment.
The volleyball guide was written and designed by Michael Hawley, Texas Tech Media Relations Intern, with assistance from Assistant A.D./Media Relations Chris Cook and assistant media relations director Blayne Beal. Editorial assistance for the guide was provided by associate media relations director Tammi Hoffman and administrative secretary Sheila Tucker.
