LUBBOCK, Texas - After a ten-match stint of on the road matches, the Texas Tech volleyball squad (8-2, 0-1) is finally at home as they host No. 10 Kansas State (11-2, 1-0) tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the United Spirit Arena. This will be the beginning of a tough opening conference schedule for the Red Raiders as the next three teams they face have all received top rankings including No. 8 Nebraska.
Tech opened up conference play with a 1-3 loss to the Colorado Buffaloes Wed., Sept. 17, in Boulder, Colo. The team won the second game but were held down by an explosive Colorado defense. However, three Red Raiders recorded career numbers with sophomore Jessica Watson logging a career high six unassisted blocks and junior Laura Grote contributing a career high four unassisted blocks. Johnson's service ace on the Buffaloes gives her the record for career service aces, surpassing the mark of 75 set by Heather H. Justice in 2001.
Defensively the team will have to stop KSU's Lauren Goehring who is ranked first in the nation with a .500 hitting percentage. A win over the Wildcats would stop a 11-match winning streak and a game win would halt a 16 game winning streak.
Tech is 7-11 with KSU, with the Wildcats currently on a three match-winning streak over Tech. Tech's last win came at home in 2001, a 3-1 victory. Lubbock, Texas in 2001.
