Volleyball Kicks Off Tough Week of Conference Play

LUBBOCK, Texas - In its second week of conference play, Tech volleyball (8-3, 0-2) hits the road for matches against Missouri and #8 Nebraska, with Missouri just out of the top 25 after receiving votes. Tech will kick off the week in Columbia, Mo., on Wed. 24, taking on the Tigers (9-2, 2-0). On Sat. 27, Tech will face Nebraska (10-1, 2-0) in Lincoln, Neb.
Tech is coming off a three-game loss to #10 Kansas State in Lubbock, Texas. The squads were fairly matched with both teams swapping leads through out the match. Offensively, junior Kelly Johnson is leading the Red Raiders with a .282 hitting percentage and a team high 232 kills and 15 service aces. Defensively, junior Jessy Herrera has a team high 148 digs.
Missouri is coming off conference wins against Baylor (30-20, 30-11, 25-30, 33-31) and Oklahoma (30-21, 30-25, 31-29). Leading the Tigers is Shen Danru with a team high 143 kills, 28 service aces, 128 digs and four double-doubles on the season. Tech holds the advantage of the series, 11-4, with Missouri defeating the Raiders last season in three games (19-30, 21-30, 30-32).
Nebraska enters this week on a 73 match win streak over conference opponents after defeating Texas A&M (30-28, 26-30, 26-30, 30-26, 15-9) and Texas (30-20, 30-19, 30-19) last week. Anna Shrad is leading the Huskers with 141 kills while defensively Jenae Dowling holds 137 digs. Tech has logged one win against the perennial powerhouse Tein 1996. The Huskers have logged 18 wins against the Red Raiders.
