Cross Country Places 16th and 30th at Roy Griak Invitational

In its most competitive meet of the year, the cross country men's team earned a 30th place finish while the women finished in 16th at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn., today at the University of Minnesota Les Boldstad Golf Course. The women's team competed against 13 ranked teams.
Tech men placed in 30th place with 800 points on the 8,000m course. Wisconsin won the meet with a score of 89. For the third straight time, Benson Cheserek was Tech's top finisher with a time of 25:42 and a 94th place finish. Joseph McCellon ran a 25:53 earning a 124th finish while Dwayne Benoit, with a time of 26:46, placed in 216th. Rob Kalesky finished in 227th after running the course in 27:00. Adam Lawless ran a 28:07 to finish in 243. Kyle Atwood rounds out the roster with a time of 28:41 and a finish of 207.
Tech women finished in 16th with 428 points on the 6,000m course. Arizona State won the tournament with 103 points. Brionne Yosten was Tech's top finisher with a time of 21:44 to place in 35th. Tracie Akerheilm placed in 70th after finishing the course in 22:12. Katie Leonard, with a time of 22:33, finished in 103rd. Kelly Blikre ran a 22:46 for a 126th place finish. Finishing one second behind Blikre was Stephanie Calhoun who finished in 128th. Abby Schubert with a time of 23:02 earned a 151st place finish.
The team's next meet will be Saturday Oct. 4, at the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla.
