Kelly Johnson Named Big 12 Player of Week

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Big 12 Conference honored junior outside hitter Kelly Johnson as Big 12 Player of the Week today for the week of Sept. 2. This is the second time Johnson has received this honor and the first time this season.
The Fort Worth, Texas, native collected her second tournament MVP honor this season at the Big Orange Bash in Clemson, S.C. after receiving the honor at the Islander Invitational. Johnson led the team in kills all three matches, tallying 85 during the tournament. Her 29 kills against Charleston and 30 against Winthrop are Texas Tech single match records. Against Charleston, she had 72 attacks, which is also a Tech record. She led the team with 44 digs and had a tournament hitting average of .300. She leads team in kills (157), attacks (347) and service aces (12) this season.
Her two service aces against Clemson put her in a first-place tie with Heather H. Justice in career service aces. Johnson is currently on a three match double-double streak, bringing her total to four on the season.
