SAN MARCOS, Texas - Junior Keely Tucker pitched a strong game after surviving a rough start, but it was not enough to lift the Lady Raiders to victory as they fell 4-0 to New Mexico State on the final day of the Bobcat Softball Classic in San Marcos, Texas.
Tech (0-5) ran into trouble after going in order in the top of the first inning The first three Aggies that to came to bat also came around to score in the bottom of the inning on several sloppy defensive plays by the Lady Raiders. During the inning, the Lady Raiders committed an error and had two passed balls to allow New Mexico State to build an early 3-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, Tech tried mounted a comeback when Heather Parker led the inning off with a single and was followed by third basemen Natalie Kula who also singled. The two were stranded after the next three Lady Raiders could not bring them around to score.
Once again in the sixth inning, it was Tech with runners on second and third with only one out after singles by Kelly Rhyne, who had two hits on the day, and pinch hitter Amanda Oakes. But as the inning before, the Lady Raiders left two runners on base while trailing 3-0. For the game, Tech left nine runners on base and out hit New Mexico State 8 to 5.
The Lady Raider will travel to Tempe, Arizona, next weekend to take part in the Fiesta Bowl Classic.
