Tech Softball Defeats Marist in Extra Innings

EL PASO, Texas - Freshman Ashleigh Renfro had three hits including a RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Texas Tech softball a 5-4 extra inning win over Marist at Tejanas Field In El Paso, Texas, on Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Foxes would draw first blood in the contest scoring on back-to-back hits off Tech starter Kassy Planck with two outs in the top of the second inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Tech would scratch back to take the lead with two runs on a pair of hits. After a lead off double by designated player Kelly Rhyne, Brandy Moulin stepped to the plate and sent a pitch over the head of the center fielder to score Rhyne and give Tech its first triple of the season. A sacrifice fly by Ashleigh Renfro would score Moulin and give Tech the 2-1 lead.
The Lady Raiders (13-16) threatened in the bottom of the fifth, getting a lead off double from Renfro. However, Tech was not able to convert as the next three batters were retired to keep the score at 2-1.
Marist would recapture the lead in the top of the sixth inning. A lead off single would come back to hunt Tech, as two batters later a double by Allison Bartley would plate the tying run. Bartley would score on an error later in the inning to give the Red Foxes a 3-2 lead.
The Lady Raiders would battle back to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Renfro singled and was lifted for pinch runner Ashley Parker would score a batter later on a single by pinch hitter Lisa Lawler. After a single by pinch hitter Heather Parker put runners on first and second with one out, Natalie Enderlin lined out and Britney Stolle walked to load the bases for Elyssa Sigala, who popped out to end the inning.
After Marist scored a run in the top of the eighth inning, Tech would come to the plate in the bottom of the inning needing a run to stay alive. After a sacrifice fly by Moulin tied the game, Andrea Joachims singled to give the Lady Raiders a base runner with one out. Renfro then stepped to the plate and sent a deep fly to left center field that fell for a double and allowed Joachims to score the game-winning run.
Junior Keely Tucker (5-5) entered the game in the ninth inning and got the team out of the inning to get her fifth win of the season.
Texas Tech softball will be back in action tomorrow as it travels to Las Cruces, N.M., to take on New Mexico State in a doubleheader.
