Tech Set To Take On Houston In Midland
The Texas Tech baseball team will have one final non-conference tune-up on Tuesday as the Red Raiders will face the Houston Cougars at the First American Bank Ballpark in Midland. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The Red Raiders enter the game against Houston with an overall record of 15-7 on the season and will be making final preparations before opening Big 12 play this weekend at Texas A&M. Tech will be hoping to ride some recent momentum into Tuesday's game as the Red Raiders are fresh off a series win over the Clemson Tigers. Texas Tech won the final two games of the series 13-10 and 5-3 after falling 7-3 in the opener on Friday night.
Houston enters the game against Tech with an 8-14 overall record and have played one of the toughest schedules in the nation. The Cougars opened Conference USA play this past weekend at No. 16 Southern Mississippi and fell 2-1 in the series. The Cougars have played three-game series against Cal-State Fullerton, LSU and Long Beach State and single games against Rice, Texas, Baylor and Texas A&M.
The Cougars are being led offensively by Nick Bolt who is hitting .302 on the season. The top hurler on the Houston staff is Brandon Roznovsky who is 1-0 with a 3.09 ERA in 14 appearances. Houston is coached by Rayner Noble who is 339-238 in nine seasons at the helm of the Cougar program.
The game in Midland against Houston will mark the first ever collegiate game at First American Bank Ballpark. The park is home to the Midland Rockhouds (Double-A affiliate of the Oakland A's) and will be the fourth professional stadium that Tech has played in this season (Minute Maid Park, Dell Diamond, Isotopes Park are the others).
Tuesday's game will be carried live on the Red Raider Baseball Radio Network (KKAM 1340 - locally) and the pregame show will get underway at 6:35 p.m. For more information or for tickets to the game, please call the Midland Rockhounds at (432) 520-2255.
