LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Track and Field team will see the best athletes in the nation this weekend, as they will compete in the 77th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. The collegiate meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Thurs., April 1.
The men's sprint medley relay team looks to make history, as three peat champions. The team took home the title in 2002 with a time of 3:17.25 and in 2003 with a time of 3:14.09. A title this year would make Tech the only school to win the title three times since Kansas State won from 1968-1970. The 2003 team consisted of departed senior Julieon Raeburn and juniors Matt Stewart, Albert Booker and Jonathan Johnson.
Junior Bobby Most is also looking to defend his title after winning last year, clearing a mark of 18'-0.5" in the pole vault, the second best mark in school history.
Tech is coming off a great appearance at the UTEP Invitational where they laid claim to 15 first-place finishes with both teams finishing first ahead of Big 12 opponents Oklahoma and Texas A&M. The team also claimed 16 regional qualifying marks. Junior Jared Thornhill vaulted a height of 17'-10.50" for both a first-place finish and a regional qualifying mark. His vault is the third-best vault in the nation at this time.
After a knockout performance including four-first-place finishes and three regional qualifying marks, junior Shereefa Lloyd was named Co-Female Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. The junior set regional qualifying marks in the 100-and 200-meter dash with times of 11.64 and 23.43 seconds, which currently places her second in the conference and first in the nation for the 200-meter dash.
