DALLAS, Texas - After a stellar performance at the Mutual of Omaha Lady Raider Softball Classic, senior Elyssa Sigala was honored on Tuesday by the Big 12 Conference as she was named the Big 12 Player of the Week.
The native of Salinas, Calif., hit .529 with three home runs and eight RBI in six games. Sigala got the weekend off to a torrid start, hitting a pair of two-run home runs and driving all four runs in a 4-1 victory over Columbia on March 5. Against Columbia on Saturday, Sigala would post a perfect 2 for 2 mark at the plate with two doubles. In the final day of the tournament, Sigala would again make her mark on the box score driving in three runs on the day to lead Tech to a pair of wins.
"I'm excited about getting this honor," Sigala stated." I think it is more of an indication of how our team is playing right now. This weekend we really put together all three aspects of softball and were able to get good pitching and hitting, while playing good defensively."
Sigala currently lead the Lady Raiders in average with a .389 mark, doubles with seven, home runs with seven, RBI with 20 runs driven in and walks drawn with 19.
Texas Tech softball will be back in action when they travel to El Paso, Texas, to take on Marist and UTEP on March 16.
