LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech softball collected 11 hits, but it was unable to manufacture runs as they left 12 base runners on base, falling to Texas 10-1 in game two of a doubleheader against Texas at Rocky Johnson Field on Wednesday night.
The Lady Raiders (19-28, 1-9 Big 12) drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning of the contest. Lead off batter Ashley Parker doubled to right center field and moved to third on a passed ball. Natalie Kula got her home in the next at bat on a sacrifice fly to center field, giving Tech a 1-0 lead.
Texas (20-17; 2-7 Big 12) responded with three runs courtesy of a two-out three-run home run by Wynter Turner in the top of the third of Tech starter Keely Tucker (6-9), who pitched her sixth complete game of the season yielding only three earned runs.
The Longhorns added an insurance run in the top of the third. A lead off double by Tamara Poppe would provide Texas with a base runner that scored later in the inning on an error by Kula, pushing the lead to 4-1.
Texas added a run in the fifth and broke through in the seventh to score five more runs to stretch the lead to 10-1. The inning saw Turner slam her second home run of the night, a two-run shot to right field.
This weekend the Texas A&M Aggies come to town to face the Lady Raiders. The teams will square off on Saturday at 6 p.m. on "Run the Rock Night" which will feature members of the nationally ranked Lady Raider basketball team who be taking throwing out the first pitch and performing various game operations. The teams will take the field at 1 p.m. on Sunday's series finale.
