LUBBOCK, Texas - Oklahoma first baseman Ole Sheldon went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the 13th-ranked Sooners to a 10-4 win over Texas Tech on a cool Friday night at Dan Law Field.
The win snapped Tech's win streak at seven games as the Red Raiders fell to 25-13 overall and 6-6 in league play
Oklahoma jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third as Russell Raley picked up an RBI single that plated Ryan Rohlinger. Rohlinger got on base after being hit in the head by Tech starter Steven Thomas. The Sooners plated their final run of the inning on a throwing error by Tech first baseman Josh Brady that allowed Raley to score from third.
Junior shortstop Cameron Blair put the Red Raiders back in the game in the bottom of the inning when he belted a two-run home run over the right field bullpen. Blair's two-run home run was set up by catcher Cooper Fouts who reached base on a one out single to left. Tech took its only lead of the game later in the inning as designated hitter Dallas Braden reached on a bunt single and moved to third on a bloop double to right by Josh Brady. Michael Mask gave Tech the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly to deep center field.
It would be all Oklahoma from that point on as the Sooners scored eight runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Five of Oklahoma's runs came with two outs in the sixth and seventh.
Junior right fielder Madison Edwards put Tech on the board in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run that landed at the base of the video scoreboard in right-center.
Mark Roberts earned the win for Oklahoma as he pitched seven innings allowing just six hits and three earned while striking five. Steven Thomas suffered the loss for Texas Tech as he allowed four earned runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings.
Madison Edwards and Josh Brady both had two hits on the day to lead the Texas Tech offense. Ole Sheldon went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead Oklahoma.
Texas Tech and Oklahoma return to action on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the series at Dan Law Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
