LUBBOCK, Texas - Dallas Baptist's Drew Holder hit a two-out RBI double in the top of the 10th inning that gave the Patriots a 4-3 win over Texas Tech on Wednesday afternoon at Dan Law Field.
Texas Tech stranded 12 runners in the game and fell to 32-16 on the year while Dallas Baptist ends its 2004 regular season at 40-1.
Texas Tech took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a Michael Mask RBI triple that went sailing into the gap in left-center field. Mask's triple scored designated hitter Dallas Braden who reached on a bunt single with one out.
Dallas Baptist took a one run lead in the top of the third as the Patriots picked up two runs on an groundout double play ball hit by Jimmy Thoma and an RBI triple by Cody Montgomery.
In the bottom of the fourth, Texas Tech had runners at first and fourth and pulled off the double steal with Josh Haney scoring from third. The two teams traded runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the score at 3-3.
A quick top half of the ninth put Texas Tech in position to win the game in the bottom half of the frame and Cooper Fouts got things going as he was hit by a pitch in Tech's the first at-bat. Cameron Blair moved Fouts to second on a controversial bunt sacrifice call that he seemed to have beat out but first base umpire Curtis Alexander ruled him out on the play. Braden drew a walk in the next at-bat but Patriot reliever Aaron Klusman retired Josh Brady and Michael Mask to end the inning.
With two outs in the top of the 10th, Juan Razo gave up a single to Ryan Olivo and then Drew Holder scored him with a double to left-center. The Patriots walked two batters in the bottom of the 10th but retired Cody Fuller and Matthew Coco to end the game with two Tech runners at second and third.
Juan Razo (2-3) suffered the loss for Texas Tech as he gave up one earned run on six hits in 4 2/3 innings of relief work. Aaron Klusman (6-3) earned the win in relief for Dallas Baptist while Stuart Sutherland earned his third save of the year.
Texas Tech returns to action on Friday night as they battle the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a three-game series at Allie Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater. First pitch on Friday night is set for 7 p.m.
