Paulsen Knocked Off in First Round of NCAA Tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech men's tennis player, junior Jakob Paulsen was defeated this morning in the first round of the 2004 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships. Paulsen is only the second player in Texas Tech school history to compete in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship.
Paulsen was defeated by the nation's third-ranked player, Jeremy Wurtzman of Ohio State. Wurtzman took the match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
"Jakob played very well today," said head coach Tim Siegel. "He played against one of the best players in the country, and Jeremy has been ranked No. 1 for a good part of this year. I was really pleased with the way he (Jakob) played. Overall, it's been a great year for Jakob, and I'm looking forward to an ever better year from him and the team next year."
This brings Paulsen's post-season play to a close. Looking back on the 2004 spring season, The 53rd-ranked Paulsen helped the Red Raiders advance to the semifinals of the Big 12 Conference Championship this year, and was named All-Big 12 in singles and the Big 12 Conference Co-Newcomer of the Year.
