
Competition Continues For Several Track & Field Athletes

LUBBOCK, Texas - Junior Jonathan Johnson and freshmen Shawon Harris and Bryan Scott continued track and field action this past weekend as they competed at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials Twilight Distance Qualifier and the 2004 US Junior Track and Field Championships, respectively. Johnson set a new school record in the 800M with all three finishing in the top five in their event.
Johnson finished second behind Nike's Khadevz Robinson with a time of 1:45.76, a new PR and school record. This time meets the "A" standard for the Olympic Trials giving him a guaranteed spot on the team if he finishes in the top three at the trials.
Scott and Harris competed at the 2004 US Junior Track & Field Championships in College Station, Texas over the weekend. Scott finished third in the 400M hurdles with a time of 51.57, just one place short of qualifying for the Olympic trials. Scott turned in a prelim time of 50.94.
Harris competed in both the 110M hurdles and 400M hurdles. In the 110M hurdles, Harris clocked a time of 14.41 in the prelims and improved to a time of 14.38 in the finals to finish in fourth place. Harris finished in fourth-place with a time of 52.64 in the 400M hurdles. Harris ran a time of 52.64 in the prelims.
The Olympic Trials will be held July 9-18 in Sacramento, California.
