Red Raider Volleyball Steps Onto The Court

LUBBOCK, Texas - With nine new ladies joining the seven 2004 returnees, the Red Raider volleyball team is geared up for the upcoming season. The Red Raiders finished their first half-week of practices after officially checking-in last Wednesday. Tech's top returnee Kelly Johnson, who led the team in kills(559) and aces(33) last year, enters this season as Tech's career kills leader with 1,471. The Tech senior overtook the top position last year against Nebraska (9/27/03). The Lady Raiders will begin the 2004-05 season in San Diego, Calif., where the team will compete at the San Diego State Tournament Sept. 3-4. Tech will face UC Santa Barbara, Wichita State and tournament host San Diego State in a round robin tournament format. The first scrimmage for the Red Raiders is set for Sat., Aug. 28th, at 1:00 p.m. Red Raider fans can catch the team in their first home appearance Sept. 9-10, as Tech hosts the Red Raider Round-Up against North Texas, UTEP and UT-Pan American.
