Offensive Explosion Boosts Tech Soccer to Victory

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer team defeated Oral Roberts 6-2 on Fri., Aug. 27, at R.P. Fuller Stadium. The Red Raider offense dominated with six goals by five different players and a total of 13 shots on goal. This is Tech's first six-goal game since a victory over Stephen F. Austin during the 2001 season. The scoring opened with a successful penalty kick by Allison Seifert, her first collegiate goal, in the first two minutes of the game. Also adding to the Raider offense was sophomore Ana Morton who scored from midfield midway through the first half. Freshman Priscilla Esquivel followed with her first of two goals in the game, receiving the assist from freshman Jenifer Thomas. Freshman Ashley Reed put the Red Raiders up 4-2 with her goal at the end of the first half. Texas Tech held the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts scoreless in the second half as the Red Raiders added two more goals by freshman Jenifer Thomas and a second goal by Priscilla Esquivel. Seifert, Morton, Reed, Thomas and Esquivel all tallied their first collegiate goals during the match. Junior Megan Knauss got the start in goal for the Red Raiders, making six saves and allowing two goals. She played the entire 90 minutes and defended eight shots on goal. Red Raider Soccer heads back to the field when they host TCU on Sun., Aug. 29, at 1 p.m. at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
