Question 1: Talk About the San Diego State Tournament.
"We have nine new kids, and this will be a great opportunity for them to get to play and see some high level of volleyball," said Head Coach Nancy Todd. "There will be a lot of competition out there, and it will be a good learning experience. The girls have been working really hard these past two weeks preparing for the first tournament at San Diego State. In practice they have been working hard to earn the starting positions."
Question 2: How do you feel that the San Diego State Tournament will help prepare you for the season?
"San Diego State is gong to be a tough tournament, which is what we need to get us ready for the Big 12," said Todd. "We are going to face San Diego State, UC Santa Barbara and Wichita State who have a lot of returning players and experience, so there are going to be a lot of great matches. There will be a lot of competition out there, which is awesome for us; especially for all the new kids we have on the team. It's good to expose these kids to a high level of play so early in the season to prepare them for the Big 12.
Question 3: How have practices been going thus far?
"Practices have been going pretty good," said Todd. "There has been a lot of volleyball, two-a-days everyday for the past two weeks. The girls are a little tired, but they have been working really hard. We expect a lot of good things from them in the next couple of days of practice before we leave for San Diego."
The Red Raiders will be participating in the San Diego State Tournament Fri.-Sat., Sept. 3-4, in San Diego, Calif. The team will face host San Diego State, UC Santa Barbara and Wichita State.
The Red Raiders will return home the following weekend Sept. 10-11 for their home opener as they host the Red Raider Roundup. The team will take on North Texas, UTEP and UT-Pan American in their last non-conference matches before hosting Oklahoma Wed., Sept. 19, in their Big 12 opener.
