The other three players, Cumbie, offensive tackle Daniel Loper and center Dylan Gandy, will join Campbell and Duckett in Honolulu on Mon., Jan. 17, for the Hula Bowl, which will be played on Sat., Jan. 22. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. from War Memorial Stadium and will be televised on ESPN. All five players are on the West roster, which will be coached by Oregon's Mike Bellotti.
Postseason Notes:
*Loper and Campbell, which make up the left side of Tech's offensive line, along with Gandy are the first offensive linemen to play in a postseason all-star game since former tackle Ben Kaufmann's appearance in the Senior Bowl following the 1997 season.
*Cumbie, Hawaii's Timmy Chang and Sam Houston State's Dustin Long are the three quarterbacks on the West squad.
*The five players in the Hula Bowl are the most for Texas Tech in the history of the game. The Red Raiders have never sent more than two players in a given year to the Hula Bowl.
*Campbell is the first Tech player since Derek Dorris in 2000 to play in The Villages Gridiron Classic.
*Tech's last three defensive standouts have played in postseason all-star games: Montae Reagor: East-West Shrine Game and Senior Bowl; Aaron Hunt: East-West Shrine Game; Adell Duckett: East-West Shrine Game.
*Cumbie is the third-straight starting quarterback from Tech invited to postseason play. Kliff Kingsbury participated in the Hula Bowl and Senior Bowl, while B.J. Symons received invitations, but couldn't play due to injury.
