LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech volleyball head coach Nancy Todd announced today two new additions to the upcoming spring Red Raider volleyball squad in Philister Sang of Nairobi, Kenya, and Erica Sibley of Orange, Texas.
Though the official bulk of the season for the Red Raiders will not begin until next fall, the Red Raiders have scheduled three spring tournaments in April that the two new Red Raiders will use as preparation for the upcoming season.
Sang, a junior college transfer from Indian Hills Community College, joins the Red Raiders after a stellar 2004 season for the warriors. Sang became the first volleyball player at IHCC to make First Team All-American after helping lead the warriors to a third-place finish nationally in 2004.
While at IHCC, Sang was named First Team All-Region XI in 2003, while also setting the IHCC season records for kills (574) and kill percentage (.363) in the same year. Sang, an outside hitter, also brings international experience to the court as she recently competed for her native country of Kenya in the 2004 Summer Olympics held in Athens.
Sibley joins the Red Raiders after taking an early exit from high school this past December to join Tech for the spring season. Sibley, who graduated from LCM High School, ended her career with the Lady Bears after being named for the second-straight year to the Texas Girls High School Coaches All-State Volleyball Team.
Tech's upcoming schedule will give the new Red Raiders a chance to get to know the returning Red Raiders from last year's squad and get some early playing time before next season. Tech opens up the spring season with a home tournament on April 2, followed by a road trip to Baylor April 9, and a trip to New Mexico April 16.
