Volleyball Heads North to Face Iowa State

Lubbock, Texas - The Texas Tech volleyball team will travel to Ames, Iowa, to face the Iowa State Cyclones, on Tues., Oct. 4. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. at the Hilton Coliseum. The Red Raiders are sitting at 8-6 and 2-3 in Big 12 action on the season. The Cyclones are 10-6 and 3-2 in conference play on the season.
Last time out, the Red and Black fell in a 3-2 heartbreaker to No. 7 Missouri. The Missouri Tigers had only lost one game all season but on Saturday, they gave up two games to the Red Raiders, in their come-from-behind 3-2 victory at the United Spirit Arena. Missouri clinched the match with game scores of 27-30, 28-30, 30-23, 30-21, 15-12.
After taking games one and two, the Red Raiders couldn't battle back against the Tiger attack. Missouri had five players in double-digit kills and five players in double-digit digs.
Philister Sang tallied her eighth double-double of the season with 19 kills and 13 digs. Assisting on the offensive attack was Amy Charlebois who pounded down 18 kills, her season match-high. Emily Ziegler served as the primary setter, posting 44 assists, a season match-high. Desiree Batista anchored the defense with 25 digs, also a season match-high.
Iowa State is currently enjoying a two-match win streak with sweeps over Colorado and North Dakota State. The Cyclones are 10-6 and 3-2 in conference play this season. They have tallied Big 12 wins over No. 18 Texas, Baylor and Colorado while falling to No. 10 Missouri and No. 1 Nebraska.
The Cyclones were picked to finish last in the conference after finishing in the bottom slot during the 2004 season. They are currently sitting at sixth place in the conference.
At the last meeting between the two teams, Tech came away with a 3-0 sweep on their home court on Nov. 14, 2004. The Red Raiders lead the series with the Cyclones, 19-2.
