LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech senior QB Cody Hodges (Hereford, Texas) was named to his second postseason semifinal list as the Davey O'Brien Foundation released its list of the top 15 quarterbacks in the country Tuesday. Hodges was named one of 12 semifinalists last week for the Maxwell Award, given annually to the nation's top collegiate player.
Hodges is the third Texas Tech quarterback selected to the list under current head coach Mike Leach. Kliff Kingsbury and B.J. Symons also received the recognition during their careers.
The O'Brien Selection Committee, composed of national sportswriters and commentators, as well as former O'Brien Award winners, will vote later this month to narrow the field again. The three finalists will be announced Tues., Nov. 22, by the National College Football Awards Association in a joint effort among college football award programs.
While directing the nation's top passing attack, Hodges has led the Red Raiders to an 8-1 record and their best start since the 1976 season, when Tech opened with the same mark. Hodges is the fifth Tech quarterback to lead the nation in passing. He is averaging 389.1 yards per game and has thrown 27 touchdown passes. In his last outing, Hodges threw for 408 yards and two touchdowns in a 56-17 win over in-state rival Texas A&M.
Earlier this season against Kansas State, Hodges turned in the sixth-best single-game passing performance in NCAA history and second best in school history with 643 yards in Tech's 59-20 win against Kansas State. He also completed five touchdown passes.
Hodges joins Texas' Vince Young as the only two players from the Big 12 Conference on the list.
