Tech Faces Oklahoma State In Stillwater

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders have their eighth road game of the season and their twelfth conference game on Saturday afternoon as they face the Cowboys of Oklahoma State University at the Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The game will be televised on CBS. Vern Lundquist will call the play-by-play. Billy Packer will provide the color analysis.
John Harris will call the courtside action for Texas Tech and Chris Cassidy will provide the analysis on KKAM (1340 AM), the flagship station for the Red Raiders. The game will also be carried on ESPN 103.3 FM in the Metroplex.
Texas Tech has won eleven of their last fourteen games. The Red Raiders are 16-6 for the season and 8-3 in conference play after their 80-79 double-overtime win against Kansas on Valentine's Day.
After their four game winning streak was halted in Ames, Iowa, the Red Raiders got back on the winning track in a huge fashion as they downed Kansas in the United Spirit Arena for the first time. The series began on December 7, 1959. The double-overtime win was only the second victory the Raiders have had over the Jayhawks in seventeen games.
The Red Raiders held a 39-33 halftime lead. The Jayhawks evened the score at the end of regulation in the final four seconds on a lay-up by Keith Langford. The teams were knotted at 74-74 at the end of the first overtime as Christian Moody tipped in a missed basket as time expired.
Kansas held a five point lead in the second overtime period with 2:52 left in the game. With the Raiders down by five points, Texas Tech's Martin Zeno dropped in two free throws to leave Kansas with a three-point lead with 2:27 remaining. With 58 seconds remaining, Zeno made 1-of-2 free throw attempts to cut the Jayhawk lead to two points, 79-77. With four seconds remaining the second overtime period, Ronald Ross passed the ball to Darryl Dora at the top of the key. Dora's three-point attempt dropped through the net to give Texas Tech the lead with 3.6 seconds on the clock.
Kansas inbounded the ball and under the Tech basket and were forced to take a shot just beyond midcourt. The last Kansas attempt hit the backboard and was grabbed by Martin Zeno as time expired giving Texas Tech a thrilling 80-79 double-overtime win.
Against Kansas, Ronald Ross paced the Red Raiders with 21 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double. He also had seven assists and two steals with two turnovers. Martin Zeno scored 24 points as Jarrius Jackson dropped in 19 points and Darryl Dora added 11 points. The Jayhawks had three players in double figures for the game. Keith Langford scored 24 points. Wayne Simien had 20 points and 13 rebounds. Aaron Miles added 11 points.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders made 14-of-28 shots (50.0%) in the first half. They connected on 2-of-6 shots from three-point territory and made 9-of-10 from the free throw line.
In the second half, the Raiders made 12-of-22 field goal attempts and 2-of-4 three-pointers. They made 4-of-8 (50.0%) free-throw attempts in the second half.
The Raiders were 2-of-11 in the overtime periods (18.2%), 1-of-5 (20.0%) three-point attempts, and made 6-of-8 free-throws (75.0%).
The Red Raiders have four players who are averaging in double-figures for the season. Ronald Ross leads the squad with 17.3 points per game. Jarrius Jackson follows with 15.4 points per game. Martin Zeno averages 13.4 points per game. Devonne Giles is next with 12.0 points per game. The Raiders are averaging 82.3 points per game for the season and are scoring 78.7 ppg in conference play. Their defense has allowed 69.1 ppg for the season and 74.2 ppg in conference games.
With 848 career victories over 39 seasons, Coach Bob Knight will be on the sidelines for his 1,177th game with Saturday's game against Oklahoma State. He is only the fourth coach to amass 800 wins in his career. Jim Phelan retired with 830 wins, the late Adolph Rupp won 876, and Dean Smith leads everyone with 879 career wins.
Oklahoma State is 19-3 for the season and has won nine of their eleven conference games. They have a five-game winning streak into tomorrow's game. The Cowboys are averaging 79.4 points per game for the season and are scoring 76.7 ppg in conference play. Their defense has allowed 62.2 ppg for the season and 66.7 ppg in conference play.
Overall, OSU leads the series 23-10, which began on January 1, 1937. They have a 6-4 margin in Lubbock and have a 13-4 lead in Stillwater. The Cowboys have won four of the six neutral site games.
In the first conference game of the season, OSU downed the Raiders in Lubbock 76-66 on January 8. Ronald Ross paced the Red Raider attack with 22 points. Devonne Giles added 20 points as Jarrius Jackson added 16 points.
Joey Graham led the Cowboys with 25 points and 12 rebounds. John Lucas scored 20 points. Ivan McFarlin dropped in 14 points as Stephen Graham contributed 13 points.
The final two home games for Texas Tech will be on February 22 in a 7:00 PM tip-off against Texas and then, against Oklahoma on March 5 in a 5:00 PM tip-off. All tickets in the Non-PSL reserved areas in the upper level of the United Spirit Arena can be purchased for $5.00 per ticket.
