Raiders Host Longhorns On Tuesday At 7 PM

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech Red Raiders have their fourteenth home game of the season and their thirteenth conference game on Tuesday evening as they face the Longhorns of the University of Texas at the United Spirit Arena.
The game will be televised on ESPN2 with a 7 PM tip-off. Ron Franklin will call the play-by-play. Fran Fraschilla will provide the color analysis.
John Harris will call the courtside action for Texas Tech and Chris Cassidy will provide the analysis on KKAM (1340 AM), the flagship station for the Red Raiders. The game will also be carried on ESPN 103.3 FM in the Metroplex.
Texas Tech has won eleven of their last fifteen games and has a 12-1 record at home this season. The Red Raiders are 16-7 for the season and 8-4 in conference play after their 80-79 double-overtime win against Kansas on Valentine's Day and their road loss to OSU on February 19.
After their four game winning streak was halted in Ames, Iowa, the Red Raiders got back on the winning track in a huge fashion as they downed Kansas in the United Spirit Arena for the first time. The double-overtime win was only the second victory the Raiders have had over the Jayhawks in seventeen games.
Against OSU, the Cowboys held a 35-26 halftime lead and won 85-56. The Raiders made 10-of-31 (32.3%) first half attempts and then made 12-of-32 second half attempts to end the game at 34.9% (22-for-63). Freshman Martin Zeno was the leading scorer for the Raiders with 19 points. Devonne Giles scored 12 points and Ronald Ross added 10 points.
Texas is 18-7 for the season and has won seven of their twelve conference games. The Longhorns are averaging 79.9 points per game for the season and are scoring 72.4 ppg in conference play. Their defense has allowed 68.6 ppg for the season and 68.9 ppg in conference play.
Overall, Texas leads the series 62-51. Texas Tech holds a 27-20 margin when the teams have played in Lubbock. The Longhorns have a 36-21 lead in Austin and they have a three-game margin when the team shave met on neutral courts. The last Red Raider win (92-81) was on March 14, 2003 (Big 12 Tournament) in Dallas at the American Airlines Center.
The Longhorns downed the Raiders 80-73 on January 25 in the first game of the series this season. Ronald Ross led all scorers with 29 points. Devonne Giles scored 18 points and had 15 rebounds. Jarrius Jackson dropped in 12 points and Martin Zeno added 10 points. Daniel Gibson led the Longhorns with 20 points. Kenton Paulino scored 16 points and Jason Klotz added 12 points. Brad Buckman had 14 rebounds.
The Raiders were 10-for-40 (25%) in the first half and the Longhorns were 13-of-26 (50%) as Texas held a 32-25 halftime lead. Those seven points became the margin of victory for the Longhorns as both teams scored 48 points in the second half.
The Red Raiders have four players who are averaging in double-figures for the season. Ronald Ross leads the squad with 17.0 points per game. Jarrius Jackson follows with 15.0 points per game. Martin Zeno averages 13.6 points per game. Devonne Giles is next with 12.0 points per game.
The Raiders are averaging 81.2 points per game for the season and are scoring 76.8 ppg in conference play. Their defense has allowed 69.8 ppg for the season and 75.1 ppg in conference games.
With 848 career victories over 39 seasons, Coach Bob Knight will be on the sidelines for his 1,178th game with Tuesday's home game against Texas. He is only the fourth coach to amass 800 wins in his career. Jim Phelan retired with 830 wins, the late Adolph Rupp won 876, and Dean Smith leads everyone with 879 career wins.
