Women's Tennis Defeats Oklahoma, 5-2

LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 60 Texas Tech women's tennis team defeated No. 69 Oklahoma, 5-2, in Norman, Okla., Saturday afternoon. The Lady Raiders wrap up their spring season at 8-12 and 5-6 in conference play.

In singles action, the Lady Raiders came out on top with four wins. Cigdem Duru beat Irina Lykina at number one, 0-6, 6-2, 6-3. In the second slot, Heather Saluri fell to Janet Durham, 7-6 (4), 6-4, in the match that clinched the win for Tech. Tara Browning defeated Bethany Griffin at position three, 6-2, 6-1. In the last slot, Katja Kovacic came out on top against Christy Greenly, 7-6 (4), 6-1.

Tech got an early lead against Oklahoma after the team won all three of its doubles matches. No. 26 Lakann Wagley and Browning, who post the best record in the Big 12 at No. 1 doubles, defeated Lykina and Jessica Braver, 8-3. Duru and Durham teamed up to defeat Christi Baxley and Griffin at number two, 8-5. In the third slot, Kovacic and Erin Hunter came out on top against Greenly and Saluri.

Texas Tech will begin post-season action on April 28 as it heads to Austin, Texas, to compete at the Big 12 tournament.
