Trio of Red Raiders Sign Free Agent Deals

LUBBOCK, Texas - Three former Texas Tech football players signed free agent contracts Sunday evening in the wake of the 2005 NFL Draft. Offensive lineman Cody Campbell, quarterback Sonny Cumbie and defensive Adell Duckett all agreed to deals.
Campbell and Cumbie will join fourth-round draft pick Dylan Gandy with the Indianapolis Colts, while Duckett will join the San Diego Chargers. Duckett is the second Red Raider in as many years to sign a free agent deal with the team after Wes Welker began the 2004 season with the squad. Welker is currently with the Miami Dolphins.
Cumbie led the country in passing in 2004 with 4,742 yards, the sixth-best single season in NCAA history. He also threw for 32 touchdown passes. Helping pave the way for Cumbie's success, Campbell was among one of the best offensive lines in school history, as three members of the unit will enter NFL training camps this year. Duckett wrapped up his career as one of the top defensive ends in school history. He set school records for single-season sacks (14) and tackles for loss (23) in 2003, and finished his career in second place in sacks (28).
Tech had three players drafted in the 2005 NFL Draft, the most under Leach. Gandy, offensive tackle Daniel Loper (5th, Tennessee) and linebacker Mike Smith (7th, Baltimore) are members of Leach's first recruiting class at Tech.
