Kennedy in Second Place After Day One at Big 12

Manhattan, Kan. - After day one of the Big 12 track and field championships, freshman Julianne Kennedy is seated in second place in the heptathlon with 3,188 points.
Kennedy posted personal bests in the 100M hurdles (14.79), the shot put (39'-6") and the 200M (26.25). Kennedy also recorded a height of 5'-7.75" in the high jump. The heptathlon will resume on Saturday with the long jump, the javelin and the 800M.
Olivia Clardy earned Tech's first all-conference honor of the competition this afternoon. Clardy marked a toss of 175'-6" in the hammer throw, the second-best mark of her four-year career, good for a sixth-place finish.
Jamie Robinson earned his first all-conference honor as a Red Raider when he finished eighth in the javelin with a throw of 189'-8".
Kevin Chelimo clocked a personal-best 29:39.30 in the 10,000M, a provisional qualifying time good for a fifth-place finish and all-conference honors.
Tech posted a solid showing in the women's 10,000M as Violet Chemakwila and Bridget Tidwell clocked times of 34:47.89 and 35:46.70, respectively. Chemakwila finished in fifth place with her provisional qualifying time and Tidwell ran to a sixth-place finish, both earning all-conference honors.
The Tech women are currently in seventh place with ten points after three events while the men also sit in seventh place with five points.
The 2005 Outdoor Big 12 Championships will resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
