Women's Golf Signs Outstanding Student Athlete

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech women's golf coach Stacey Totman announced the signing of Ulrika van Neikerk of Cape Town,South Africa, to play for the Lady Raider golf team next season.
The South African native comes to Tech with a complete resume that shows her excellence on not only the greens, but in the classroom.
Neikerk's athletic accomplishments include in 2003 making it to the Quarterfinals at the Ladies Western Province Matchplay Championships. In 2004, Neikerk finished ninth at the Ladies Western Province Strokeplay Championships, fifth at the Gauteng Junior Championships and third at the Boland Championships. This past year, the South African native finished sixth at the Pam Golding Ladies International competition, first at the Bellville Ladies Club Championships and second at both the Sanlam Cansa Challenge and Mercedes Trophy competition.
Academically Neikerk joins the Lady Raiders after wrapping up a successful career at Stellenberg High School. Neikerk graduated in the top nine percent of her class, while being the first ever women's golfer to compete for her high school. Neikerk also received the subject specialist award for computer studies, which is given to the top student in that certain subject. Neikerk's final project in computer studies also finished in the top-three nationally.
Totman knows that this standout student-athlete will make a nice addition to the foundation she has built for the women's golf program here at Tech.
"I am very excited about the addition of Ulrika to the team," said Totman. "Ulrika's international and high school experience will make her a competitor for us, and she will make a big impact for this program in years to come."
