LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech track athlete Jonathan Johnson (Abilene, Texas) and women's golfer Deirdre Hatfield (Lexington, Mass.) have been recognized for their community service efforts with Big 12 Community Outreach awards, the league announced today.

During her three years at Texas Tech, Hatfield has committed her time to a variety of community service projects, including Stock the Ronald McDonald House, Take a Kid to the Game, Adopt a Highway, visit children at University Medical Center and visit Lubbock Independent School District schools. Additionally, she has taught exercise techniques to residents of Carillon Assisted Living of Lubbock and painted rooms at Lubbock Hospitality House.
Additionally, four players were nominated from Texas Tech for the NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla., during the summer. Over 300 student-athletes from across the country are selected for the conference, and Red Raider men's tennis player Dimitrio Martinez (Saltillo, Mexico) will represent Tech. The conference fosters leadership for NCAA athletes and provides the school's representatives with ideas to take back to their universities.
