Tech Ends Season with a 313 Third Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Megan Hull was unable to hold onto a top-eight finish and a berth into the NCAA Championships as the No. 48 Texas Tech Women's Golf team finished 16th at the 2005 NCAA Central Regional in Lubbock, Texas. The Rawls Course, the home of the Lady Raiders and the host of the 2005 Central Regional, saw two Big 12 teams advance to the Championships with Auburn finishing as the Central Regional Champion.
The Regional went into a play off for the two individual spots as Michigan's Brianna Broderick and LSU's Brooke Shelton ended the 18-hole course tied at eight-over par after the third round. Shelton was able to overcome Broderick in the playoff which was played at hole 18. Texas' Lisa Ferrero (70-73-79-222) earned the top individual spot with a six-over-par performance for the tournament. Ferrero finished tied for fourth overall.
Finishing in the top-eight, as well as earning a berth to the 2005 NCAA Championships in Sunriver, Ore., is No. 6 Auburn (294-309-293-896) in first followed by No. 37 Texas A&M (293-310-300-903) in second. Rounding out the top eight, in the three through eight positions were, No.15 Missouri (291-312-302-905), No. 4 Arizona State (296-310-300-906), No. 21Tulsa (298-310-300-908), No. 35 Purdue (295-309-304-908), No. 41 Michigan State (300-307-302-909) and No. 20 Arkansas (300-311-304-915)
Senior Hull (75-73-77-225, +9) finished in the top-20 with her tied for 13th finish for her best career-finish at a Regional. Hull's previous best was a tied for 57th finish in last year's West Regional. Hull finishes her career with 15 top-20 finishes. The senior's lowest round of a 71 she shot three times and Hull's best finish came in 2002-03 at the Anteater Invitational.
Senior Kim Kolb (76-84-76-236, +20) mirrored her first round performance in the third to finish tied for 68th for the event. Kolb ends her career at Tech with nine top-20 finishes with her best finish coming this year when the senior won the 2004-05 Price's Give `Em Five Intercollegiate individual title where she also shot a career-best 69 in the process.
Senior Sheila Mendez (82-82-84-248, +32) ended the tournament with a 100th-place finish. Mendez ends her career at Tech with nine top-20 finishes. The senior's best finish was fourth, a performance she had two times over her career, the most recent being at the 2002-03 Baylor Tapatio-Springs Shootout.
Rounding out the Tech competitors is sophomore Marla Troester (75-79-81-235, +19) tied for 63rd, and junior Hazel Tan (75-84-79-238, +22) tied for 80th.
Head Coach Stacey Totman was disappointed her women could not make a run on their home course, but is proud of her Lady Raider's effort.
"I didn't think that it would end here," said Totman, "it just wasn't our day and time. I am glad to have worked with this group of seniors and have the chance to not only host but play at this year's Regional."
The Lady Raiders end their season with seven top-ten finishes, with the best coming at the Price's Give `Em Five Intercollegiate where Tech finished second overall with a score of 902.
Tech appearance marks the second-straight appearance for the Lady Raiders in the NCAA Regionals, and one appearance in the NCAA Championships coming in 1997.
