
Wilson Leads USA Elite National Team to Intercontinental Cup Title

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech Softball Head Coach Teresa Wilson continued her busy off-season this month as she took over head coaching duties for the USA Elite National team for the 2005 Intercontinental Cup in Madrid, Spain. On Wednesday guided the team to the tournament's championship. Team USA captured the title by defeating Team Italy, 6-0, in the title game.
Wilson and the American squad compiled a 6-1 mark at the tournament, dropping only one contest to Chinese Taipei on Monday. Team USA bounced back from Monday's setback to down Chinese Taipei, 4-0, on Tuesday to advance to Wednesday's championship contest.

In the title game, the Americans were able to put up three runs in bottom of the third inning to take control of the contest. USA pitchers Jennie Ritter and Dana Serensen limited Team Italy to only five hits on the day while combining for seven strikeouts. Right fielder Marissa Nichols powered the American offense as she belted a home run and drove in a pair of runs in a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.
