Tech Soccer Falls in Season Opener

Ft. Worth Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer team dropped its season-opening match on Friday, falling to TCU by a score of 4-0 in Ft. Worth, Texas.
The Red Raiders drop to 0-1 on the season, while the Horned Frogs improve to 1-0 with the victory. TCU was able to get the opening goal of the match in the 11th minute as midfielder Marissa Hill fired a shot that eluded Tech goalkeeper Megan Knauss. Knauss played the entire game in net for the Red Raiders and collected three saves. The Horned Frogs added a second first period goal just under nine minutes later at the 19:12 mark and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second period, TCU posted goals in the 53rd and 63rd minutes to finish with the 4-0 advantage.
Offensively for the Red Raiders, freshman Chessa Purser and Lauren Fricks each tallied a shot on goal in their first collegiate action. Sophomore midfielder Ashley Reed also chipped in with a shot on goal as Tech was outshot 13-7 during the match.
Texas Tech soccer will return to Lubbock for its home opener on Sunday when it hosts the SMU Mustangs at R.P. Fuller Stadium. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start time.
