Volleyball Opens Big 12 Action with Baylor

Lubbock, Texas- The Texas Tech volleyball team will open Big 12 conference play Wed., Sept. 14, at 7 p.m., when they host the Baylor Bears for the 58th match of the series.
The Red Raiders are coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Red Raider Round Up. Tech tallied victories against San Diego State (3-1) and Georgia (3-1) and fell to Boise State (3-1). The team sits at 6-3 on the season.
Philister Sang is leading the offense with 166 kills, second-best in the Big 12, and hitting percentage of .292 with 5.19 kills per game. Sang is also listed at third in the conference in points scored with 183.5 and has recorded four double-doubles. Libero Desiree Batista and setters Holly Hicks and Emily Ziegler, who have accumulated 252 digs between the three of them, anchor the defense. Ziegler has also recorded two double-doubles.
The Baylor Bears went 6-2 in their non-conference season, with wins over Northwestern State, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, McNeese State, Texas State and Central Michigan. This will be their first conference match up of the 2005 season.
The Bears were picked to finish in a tie for seventh in the conference after finishing in a tie for ninth during the 2004 campaign.
Tech holds the series with Baylor, 48-9. The Red Raiders have defeated the Bears 25 times in Lubbock and have only lost twice on their home court.
