
Women's Tennis Completes Day One at William and Mary

Lubbock, Texas- The Texas Tech women's tennis team completed day one of competition at the William and Mary Invitational on Friday. Teams competing in Williamsburg include William and Mary, Arkansas, Boston College, Duke, Marshall, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
In the first round of singles, Tara Browning defeated Douglas Wink of Virginia, 7-5, 6-4. Samantha van def Drift fell to Inga Beerman of Virginia Tech, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3. Cigdem Duru defeated Robin Carter of Richmond, 6-4, 6-4. Anne Sophie Fankum fell to Anita Ivancevic of Brown, 6-0, 6-1. Janet Durham fell to Alina Sullivan of Boston College, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2. Katja Kovacic downed Caroline Hammond of Virginia, 7-6, 6-4. Erin Hunter fell to Paula Takahasi of Winthrop, 7-5, 6-4.
In the quarterfinals, Browning fell to Anat Elazari of Virginia Tech, 6-2, 6-1. Duru fell to Lana Krasnopolsky of Boston College, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. Kovacic topped Ivana King of Princeton, 6-4, 6-4.
In the consolation round, Fankum topped Sarah Svoboda of BC, 6-1, 6-3. Durham defeated Michelle Mitchell of Penn, 7-5, 6-1. Hunter fell to Amanda Rales of Virginia, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0.
In doubles action, Browning and Lakann Wagley defeated Amanda Saiontz and Kara Zeder of Brown, 8-1. Duru and van der Drift topped Elazari and Jessica Long of Virginia Tech, 8-2. Raluca Ciochina and Janet Comeno of Penn defeated Fankum and Hunter, 9-8. Hammond and Hampton Williams of Virginia topped Durham and Kovacic, 8-4.
