LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior forward Kimmie Davis tallied her team-leading fourth goal of the season on a second half penalty kick, but it was not enough to lift the Red Raiders to a victory as they fell to Northwestern, 4-1, on Friday at R.P. Fuller Stadium.
The Wildcats (2-1) took an early advantage in the game as they tallied goals in the 22nd and 23rd minutes of the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Wildcats were able to tack onto their lead despite being outshot 13-8 by Tech in the period. Jenny Dunn scored at the 74:11 mark and Julie Lapinski converted on a penalty kick at the 85:31 mark for a 4-0 Northwestern lead.
The Red Raiders (1-3) were able to avoid the shutout as the Wildcats committed a foul in the penalty box at the 89:48 mark sending Davis to the line. The Torrance, Calif., native beat Northwestern goalie Leslie Gittings on a high shot for fourth goal of the season.
This weekend, Texas Tech soccer welcomes Olympian Heather Mitts to Lubbock. The Team USA member will participate in a dinner and autograph session from 7-8:30 p.m. on Saturday evening at R.P. Fuller Stadium and on Sunday will lead free clinic following the Red Raiders match with Minnesota, which begins at 1 p.m.
