Volleyball Battles Rice in Houston

Lubbock, Texas- The Texas Tech volleyball team with take on the Rice Owls, in Houston, Tues., Sept. 6, at 7 p.m, at Autry Court (4,800).
The Red Raiders are fresh off their SMU Tournament title where they defeated Oral Roberts (3-1), Stony Brook (3-0) and SMU (3-0). Philister Sang was named the Tournament MVP and Desiree Batista and Amy Charlebois were named to the all-tournament team for their efforts.
The Red Raiders sit at 3-2 on the season and have yet to debut at home.
The Rice Owls are also coming off a tournament victory. The Owls defeated McNeese State (3-0), Duke (3-0) and Sacramento State (3-2) to claim the title at their home tournament this past weekend.
The Conference USA volleyball coaches selected Rice as the preseason favorite to win the 2005 C-USA Championship. The Owls return four starters and six letterwinners from a club that is coming off its most successful season in program history after receiving their first NCAA tournament bid with a 25-5 (12-1 WAC) record in 2004.
Tech leads the series with the Owls, 24-8 (12-2 in Lubbock, 10-5 in Houston and 2-1 on a neutral court). The last meeting between the two teams was a Tech victory, 3-1, on Nov. 8, 1995 in Houston.
