POINTS OFF TURNOVERS GO IN TECH'S FAVOR
The Red Raiders scored a season-high 21 points off of Oklahoma turnovers in the first half. All three Texas Tech touchdowns were the results of OU turnovers including Antonio Huffman's 54-yard interception return. Texas Tech has now scored 83 points this season off turnovers, including 11 touchdowns and two field goals.
NOTING THE RED RAIDERS
Sophomore quarterback Graham Harrell threw his 10th interception of the season on a third down situation on Tech's second possession of the game. The Tech defense returned the favor on the next play when Seth Nitschmann (DE) recovered a fumble by Jacob Gutierrez.
Senior inside receiver Robert Johnson scored the first points of the game for Texas Tech as he gave the Red Raiders a 6-3 lead on a 30-yard TD reception from Graham Harrell with 4:20 remaining in the first quarter. The touchdown reception was the first by Johnson since he scored the game-winning catch in the final seconds at Texas A&M on Sept. 30. Johnson picked up his second touchdown of the game later in the first quarter when he hauled in a 6-yard catch that gave the Red Raiders a 16-10 lead.
Freshman wide receiver Adrian Reese caught a 28-yard pass on Tech's fourth possession of the game - marking his career-long reception and surpassing his entire season total of 21 yards coming into the game.
Junior placekicker Alex Trlica kicked a 32-yard field goal to tie the game at 10-10 with 11:18 remaining in the first half. Trlica is now 5-for-7 on the season from 30-39 yards out.
Senior cornerback Antonio Huffman picked up his first career interception return for a touchdown and his third career interception (first of the season). Huffman picked off OU quarterback Paul Thompson and ran it back 54 yards to give the Red Raiders a 23-10 lead. The interception return for the touchdown was the second of the season for the Red Raiders (Fletcher Session returned a 19-yard interception earlier this year against Texas) and is the most by the Tech defense since 2002. He finished the game with 10 tackles, one forced fumble and an interception.
The Texas Tech offense was held scoreless in the third quarter for the fifth time this season (TCU, Texas A&M, Colorado, Texas and now Oklahoma) and scoreless in the second half for the third time (TCU and Texas).
Oklahoma's Chris Brown scored on a 40-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that gave the Sooners at 26-24 lead. The 40-yard TD rush was the longest against the Tech defense this season.
