PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Senior pitcher Julie Hauck scattered four hits in a complete game shutout effort in the circle on Friday to lift the Texas Tech softball team to a 5-0 victory over the UNLV Rebels at the Palm Springs Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.
The win improves Tech's overall record this season to 5-9 heading into Friday's late afternoon match-up with top-ranked Arizona. The Rebels, meanwhile drop to 7-6 on the year.
The Red Raiders were finally able to break the ice off of UNLV starter Shannon Crisp in the top of the fifth inning, scoring one run on a bases-loaded walk issued to left fielder Montana Patin, who collected her fourth RBI in three games at the tournament.
After a outstanding defensive play by shortstop Heather Parker in the bottom of the fifth, the Texas Tech offense was back in full swing, breaking the game open with four runs on three hits, while also taking advantage of a pair of Rebel errors. Junior Natalie Kula and freshman Elizabeth Eimen collected RBI doubles in the inning.
In her second complete game shutout win of the season, Hauck (2-4) struck out five batters while allowing none to reach base on walks.
Texas Tech softball concludes play at the Palm Springs Classic on Saturday with games against No. 19 LSU and No. 23 Fresno State.
