Tech Tracks Parts for Mt. SAC Relays, UTEP

Lubbock, Texas - Red Raider track and field will part ways this week as one group will head to the Mt. SAC Relays, in Walnut, Calif., and the remaining team members will travel to El Paso, Texas for the UTEP Invitational.
Athletes from more then 150 colleges and universities will join Tech just outside of Los Angeles for the 48th annual relay carnival held at Mt. San Antonio College. The three-day event will begin Thurs., April 13.
Traveling to El Paso will be members of the No. 17 men and No. 2 women of the USC Trojans squad, No. 17 Alabama women, Florida (women), New Mexico, New Mexico State (women) and Texas-San Antonio (women, in addition to the hosting No. 5 UTEP men and No. 25 UTEP women.
The meet will begin with the field events at 9:45 a.m. MST and the running events are scheduled for a 3 p.m. MST start.
The men's squad is ranked No. 7 in the Trackwire 25. In individual events, Andrae Williams is No. 4 in the 400M, Zach Glavash is No. 5 in the 800M, Daryl Burgess is No. 7 and Marlon Odom No. 8 in the 110M hurdles, respectively, Shawon Harris is No. 3 in the 400M hurdles and Sage Thames is No. 8 in the pole vault. The men's 4x400M relay (Harris, Michael Mathieu, Glavash, Williams) moved up three spots to No. 2 on the list.
Last weekend at the 79th Texas Relays, Harris set six NCAA regional qualifying marks in four events. He finished second in the 400M hurdles with a 50.47, a personal best, seventh in the 110M hurdles with a 13.93 and ran on the regional qualifying 4x100M (40.50) and 4x400M (3:05.04) relays. The men's 4x400M (Harris, Mathieu, Glavash, Williams) finished second behind LSU and was the top finisher of the Big 12 teams.
The women's 4x400M (Louise Cox, Tia Barginear, Patricia Mayers, Althea Chambers) clocked its' first regional qualifying mark of the season with a 3:41.19.
In the men's pole vault, Thames finished fifth with his first NCAA regional mark of 17'-8.5".
Sabrina Taylor finished fourth in the "B" pool of the long jump with her second regional qualifying mark of the season, 19'-11.5", also a new collegiate personal best.
Patience Knight marked a toss of 46'-0.5", a new personal best, good for a 10th-plce finish in the shot put "B" pool. On the men's side, in the "B" pool, Harrison Benjamin finished fifth with a throw of 57'-10", his third regional qualifying mark of the season.
In the discus, school record holder D'Andra Carter finished 10th in the "A" pool with her third regional qualifying mark of the season, 156'-0". On the men's side, Brad Kring finished ninth with a 166'-8".
