TECH TAKES A BREAK FROM BIG 12 ACTION, HOSTS NEWS MEXICO STATE
The Texas Tech Red Raiders will take a break from Big 12 action on Tuesday night when they welcome the New Mexico State Aggies for a midweek contest. Tickets for Tuesday's game are available through the Texas Tech Athletics Ticket Office and the game will be broadcast live on the Texas Tech Sports Network. Mark Finkner and Jason Totman will call the action from Dan Law Field beginning with the pre-game show at 6:05 p.m.
Tuesday's game marks the second and final meeting of the year between Texas Tech and New Mexico State and the Red Raiders will be looking for the two-game sweep. The two clubs met on a neutral field in Roswell, N.M. back on March 14 and the Red Raiders came out victorious 8-4. Texas Tech has won six straight and leads the all-time series 36-11.
The Red Raiders enter Tuesday's contest riding the high of a series win over then 24th-ranked Baylor. Tech dropped a close 2-1 decision to the Bears in the opener on Friday but rebounded in a big way by posting 14-4 and 14-1 blowout wins to take the series 2-1. The series win over Baylor ended a streak of seven Big 12 series that the Red Raiders had either lost or tied and was the first series win over a ranked opponent since beating No. 8 Texas A&M in the Big 12 opener last season.
New Mexico State ended a 14-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon by breaking Fresno State's 17-game win streak. The Aggies had lost 14-straight entering Sunday's series finale at Presley Askew Field in Las Cruces but posted a 9-8 win that gave them their first win in WAC play and first since a 13-5 win over Northern Iowa on March 5. New Mexico State enters Tuesday's game against the Red Raiders with an overall record of 11-22 and are 1-5 in WAC play.
