Odom Sets School Record at NCAA Regionals

Austin, Texas - Texas Tech track and field completed day one of competition at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in Austin, Texas, on Friday. The top five finishers in each individual event and the top three relays in each event will earn automatic bids to the National Championships, in Sacramento, in June.
Irene Kimaiyo was the Midwest Region runner-up in the 5,000M with her clocking of 16:51.58. Kimaiyo has earned her automatic trip to Nationals for the first time in her career.
Lacy Wilson earned a trip to Sacramento after a fifth-place finish in the women's high jump. Wilson cleared 5'-11.25" to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the second straight year.
Sage Thames found his grove in the pole vault and finished in fourth place with a clearance of 17'-5", good for an automatic trip to Nationals. Thames last trip to the outdoor championships was in 2004.
Marlon Odom was the fastest qualifier in the 110M hurdles with a school record clocking of 13.45 in an attempt to defend his Midwest Region title from 2005. He replaces the previous school record of 13.60 set by teammate Shawon Harris earlier this season. The time is the second-fastest mark in the nation and is also a new personal best.
"I was rolling!" said Odom, shortly after his race. "I'm glad I got the school record back. I don't run to break records but I wanted to set a personal best."
Shawon Harris was the third-fastest qualifier in the 110M hurdles. He won his heat with a clocking of 13.79. The finals of the event will be contest on Saturday.
Michael Mathieu was the seventh-fastest qualifier in the 200M with his clocking of 20.83, a new personal and season best. Mathieu will run in the finals of the event on Saturday in attempt to earn a spot at the National Championships.
In the 400M hurdles, Bryan Scott and Harris will be running in the finals on Saturday. Harris clocked a 51.29 and finished fifth overall in the prelims. Scott, also defending his Midwest Region title from 2005, won his heat with a clocking of 51.54.
In the men's long jump, Bobby Evers marked a leap of 24'-11.25" and finished in ninth place in a field that included five of the top six best jumpers in the nation. On the women's side, Sabrina Taylor finished in eighth place with a leap of 20'-3.75".
