LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's soccer team won its season-opening match on Friday, shutting-out Texas-San Antonio by a score of 2-0 in San Antonio, Texas. It was the first game for the UTSA Roadrunners' inaugural season. The Red Raiders improve to 1-0 on the season with the victory, while the Roadrunners drop to 0-1. Texas Tech was able to get the opening goal of the match within the first 30 seconds as freshman forward, Brittney Harrison, fired a shot.
In the second period, sophomore forward, Shanna Brown posted another goal for Texas Tech with an assist by Chessa Purser, sophomore forward, to finish with the 2-0 advantage.
"It was a very well deserved victory," said Tech head coach Neil McGuire. "This first half was a physical test due to the excitement of the crowd and the energy of the other team. But I felt like we controlled the majority of the game specifically in the second half. It was a great way for our season to begin."
Texas Tech soccer will return to Lubbock for its home opener on Sunday when it hosts the TCU Horned Frogs at R.P. Fuller Stadium. The match is slated for a 1 p.m. start time.
