Red Raiders Fall to Indiana, 4-0

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Indiana on Saturday to conclude play in the Big 12-Big Ten Challenge.
The Red Raiders are now 2-2 on the season, while Indiana improves its overall mark 1-2-1. The Hoosiers earned a 1-1 tie on Friday against Big 12 opponent, Baylor.
Indiana jumped out to a quick start in the match as it took the game's first lead at the 12:39 mark when junior forward Lindsay McCarthy tallied the ice-breaking goal. The Hoosiers would go to build a 3-0 advantage in the first period by adding goals at the 22:02 and 34:05 marks.
In the second half, Katy Stewart put the Indiana Hoosiers up 4-0 as she scored at the in the 48th minute off of an IU corner kick.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tina Rincon recorded four saves during the match.
"We were soundly beaten," said head coach Neil McGuire. "In the first half Indiana beat us to almost every ball, won every 50/50 challenge, and out worked us both on and off the ball. Once we were 3-0 down we decided to try. This performance, in particular our effort, was simply not good enough."
Tech returns to Lubbock on Fri., Sept. 8, to host Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m. On Sun., Sept. 10, Tech faces Colorado College at 1 p.m. at R.P. Fuller Stadium. This next home weekend will kick-off the Red Raider revolution. The Texas Tech soccer team has adopted a new motto this season, "You'll Never Walk Alone." The first 1,000 fans will receive scarves that represent this new team motto. If you wear your official Texas Tech seal shirt that was given away at the first home match, you will receive free admission. Groups of 10 or more receive tickets into the match for $1 per ticket.
