
Tech Makes East Coast Trip for Murray Keatinge

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech runners will travel to Orono, Maine, for their first competition since hosting their lone home meet on September 15th. The team will take part in the 15th annual Murray Keatinge Invitational on September 30th hosted by the University of Maine. The women will compete first at 9 a.m. with the 5k, and the men's 8k is set for 10 a.m.
Each of Tech's top eight finishers from the Red Raider Jackrabbit Open for both the women and men will travel to compete in Maine. On the women's side, first-place finisher Sally Kipyego comes in after running a flawless three mile course with a time of 15:55.31, a half-minute faster than second place. Irene Kimaiyo, Violet Chemakwila and Asia Diaz will compete after finishing three-four-five at the previous race. Gladys Kipsang, Molly Evans, Jessica Stovall and Michlene Daniels round out the roster for the women's team.
The top runner on the men's side will be Kevin Chelimo, who finished in third at the Jackrabbit with a time of 24:19.27 in the 8k. Trailing Chelimo, and also making the trip to Maine, will be Silas Kemboi and Edwin Sang who finished in fifth and sixth, respectively. Pedro Vargas, Eric Ayala, John Means, Zachery Quinones and Aaron Greer complete the team of eight for the men's Red Raider squad.
Tech will be racing against the following schools: Albany, Boston College, Central Connecticut, Dartmouth, Holy Cross, Maine, New Hampshire, Stony Brook and Vermont. Complete results will be posted online at www.texastech.com following the meet.
