LUBBOCK, Texas - Jack Bicknell, former head coach at Louisiana Tech University, has been tabbed by Texas Tech Football Coach Mike Leach to coach the Red Raider offensive line. Bicknell replaces Bill Bedenbaugh, who left the program to pursue a similar position at another university.
"We are excited to have a coach on our staff of Coach Bicknell's pedigree and experience," Leach said. "We wish Bill the best in his future endeavors."
Bicknell spent eight seasons at Louisiana Tech, compiling a 42-53 record, including an 8-3 record in 1999 and the program's first top 25 national ranking. In 2001 he guided the Bulldogs to the Western Athletic Conference Championship and an appearance in the Humanitarian Bowl.
Prior to being named head coach at Louisiana Tech, Bicknell was an assistant on the Bulldog staff for two seasons. He was promoted to head coach after Gary Crowton left Ruston for the Chicago Bears in 1999. His previous stop was the University of New Hampshire, where he was the offensive line coach for nine seasons.
"I couldn't be more excited about this opportunity," Bicknell said. "Mike Leach has been a very good friend of mine for a long time and I'm looking forward to joining his staff. I have always felt that Mike is one of the best coaches in the country."
