LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's tennis team presents the 2007 Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southwest Regional Championships beginning Fri., Oct. 19 thru Tues., Oct. 23. With over 130 players participating, this marks the first time Texas Tech has hosted an ITA Regional in the South Plains.
Competing in this year's field will be 20 teams from across the Southwest, including Baylor, Houston, Lamar, Louisiana State, Louisiana Lafayette, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, Southern Methodist, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Christian, Texas State, Texas Tech, Texas-Arlington, Texas-El Paso, Texas-Pan American, and Texas-San Antonio.
The competition will feature some of the top collegiate women's players in the country going head-to-head in both doubles and singles play. The tournament consists of three draws; a 64-player qualifying singles round beginning Friday, a 64-player singles main draw kicking off at 3 p.m. Saturday, and a 64-team doubles draw also starting on Friday.
Play begins each day at 9 a.m. and will be played at the McLeod Tennis Center (near UMC), Monterey High (47th and Indiana), and Municipal Tennis Courts (66th and Indiana).
