Texas Tech Men Capture Second Place at UTPB Invite

LUBBOCK, Texas - The men's cross country team claimed a second-place finish in today's UT-Permian Basin Invite on the Commanche Trails course in Odessa, Texas. Texas Tech sophomore Jake Szot placed second at the event clocking a time of 27:30 on the 8K course. Szot, along with his teammates, combined for a total of 41 points to beat out all other competing schools, except El Paso Community College with 25 points. The rest of the Red Raiders to finish were Eric Ayala, David Boston and Chase Wade, who finished in fourth, ninth and 11th places, respectively. Fourth place, Ayala finished with a time of 28:00, right behind El Paso's Robert Acosta.
The women concluded in eighth place. Three of five Tech runners placed in the top 10 spots contributing a total of 22 points combined. Leading the Raider squad was freshman Addison LeMaster, who claimed fifth overall out of the 38 individuals in the race with a 20:05 time on the 3K course. Also contributing were teammates Chelsea Ervi in seventh and Kayla Sayegh in 10th with times 20:41 and 21:10, respectively.
The men's and women's squads will compete next in Arkansas' Chile Pepper Invitational Sat., Oct. 13, in Fayettville, Ark.
Texas Tech will host the 2007 Big 12 Cross Country Championships Oct. 26 at the Jerry S. Rawls Course.
