LUBBOCK, Texas - The Texas Tech women's basketball program has announced the signing of three high school players to National Letters of Intent. Jordan Barncastle (Ben Wheeler, Texas/Martins Mill H.S.), Lindie Kimbro (Kyle, Texas/Jack G. Hays H.S.) and Kierra Mallard (Frisco, Texas/Frisco H.S.) will attend Texas Tech University in the fall of 2008.
"We are excited to sign an all Texas class, which says a lot about our coaches and how hard they are working the state of Texas," said Curry. "This class will add depth and compliment our team immediately as we prepare to host first and second rounds of the 2009 NCAA Tournament."
Barncastle, a 6-2 forward from Ben Wheeler, Texas, averaged 23.2 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two blocks as a junior at Martins Mill High School. She was TABC All-State, Texas Basketball Magazine All-State and Most Valuable Player of District 19-A during her junior year. As a sophomore her team won the Class A state championship, and Barncastle was selected TABC All-State, TABC Player of the Year and Texas Basketball Magazine All-State. Barncastle is also an excellent student and currently ranks No. 1 in her class academically.
"Jordan brings size, versatility and a knowledge of the game being a coach's kid," stated Curry. "She has the unique ability to stretch the defense with her shooting range and also score in the paint. She will bring all the intangibles to the court along with a winner's attitude that will help make our team a success."
A native of Kyle, Texas, Kimbro, is a 5-9 guard from Jack G. Hays High School. As a junior, Kimbro averaged 27 points and 11 rebounds, while being named first team All-State by TABC and TGCA. She was All-Central Texas MVP and Co-MVP of District 26-4A. Kimbro was selected to the all-tournament teams of the New Braunfels Canyon, Jack C. Hays High Rebel Classic and G.A. Blackman Tournament, all for the second-straight year. During her sophomore year, she was a unanimous first team All-District selection, while being named an All-Central Texas selection. Kimbro was a freshman starter on a team that went 31-2 and advanced to the third round of the state playoffs. She was first team All-District for 16-5A and Newcomer of the Year. Kimbro presently ranks in the top five percent of her graduating class and has a 4.0 GPA. She is a three-time Academic All-District selection.
"Lindie gives you everything you want in a guard," Curry said. "She has the ability to run your team and can score in many different ways. She will be a great leader and great addition to our program."
Rounding out this year's group of signees is Mallard, a 6-2 forward from Frisco, Texas, who is playing her first year at Frisco High School. As a junior at Richardson-Berkner High School, Mallard averaged 23.2 points and nine rebounds as she was a Street & Smith's All-American and named the Dallas Morning News District 10-5A Newcomer of the Year. She was selected to the Dallas Morning News District 9-5A All-District team. As a freshman, Mallard was named the Dallas Morning News Co-Freshman of the year and a Top 5 Freshman Phenom. She was also an Adidas Top 10 Camp All-Star in 2004. Mallard has been named a 2007 Texprep Top Player and is ranked No. 34 in the country by Blue Star Report.
"Kierra brings athleticism and size to our team," Curry stated. "She is a very good defender and rebounder. She has the ability to score in transition, posting up, or facing the basket. We expect her to be a big contributor to our team immediately."
