Crabtree Named Maxwell Semifinalist

LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree (Dallas, Texas/Carter) was selected a Maxwell Award semifinalist Wednesday by the Maxwell Football Club Advisory Committee, Club president Ron Jaworski announced. Crabtree is one of 15 players named to the list and is the only freshman and receiver among the group.

Crabtree's performance in his inaugural collegiate season has been nothing short of amazing as his exploits on the field have arguably translated into the best receiving season in NCAA history by a freshman. He leads the nation with 104 receptions; 10.4 receptions per game; 1,521 receiving yards; 151.2 receiving yards per game; and 18 touchdowns. His yardage total is an NCAA freshman record, while his 18 scores represent NCAA, Big 12 and Texas Tech single-season marks. Crabtree's 104 receptions breaks the previous NCAA freshman mark of 98, set by former Texas Tech running back Taurean Henderson in 2002.

In addition to being named a Maxwell Award semifinalist, Crabtree also is a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, presented annually to the nation's top receiver. He and Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel are the only two Big 12 Conferences players on the list.

The announcement of the winner of the Maxwell Award will be made during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show that will be broadcast on ESPN on Dec. 6. Three finalists will be in attendance for the ESPN broadcast. The formal presentation of the Maxwell Award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club's Awards Dinner on March 7, 2008, at the Harrah's Entertainment Complex in Atlantic City, N.J.

Voting for the award will begin Nov. 7 and close Nov. 30.
